Proclaiming God's Word...Extending His Love

Pastor and Staff

Rev. Travis Henderson

My objective is to serve this congregation as their Pastor to help open doors to hope and wholeness with the congregation, the lay leaders, and the staff; to faithfully preach and teach the Word of God, and to train believers to study the word of God, not just read it.  I hope to encourage, lift up, and love people as Christ did.

Expository preaching is always biblical, and intentional. Wednesday and Sunday services vary in length. I base all sermons on God’s printed Word, the Bible, and God’s living Word, Jesus. I lift up God, the Father, Jesus, the Savior, and the Holy Spirit, our guide and comforter. Preaching and teaching is mostly expository. Currently, Sunday morning messages for the month of November are all about giving thanks, and Sunday night messages are from stories about the bible we heard as children, now looking at them as adults. Multiple Wednesday evening Bible studies are offered . We also have corporate prayer time every Wednesday evening.

The Morning Worship Service

The Sunday Morning Worship must help you, the worshiper, experience God. The service bridges time-honored worship with today; youth to tradition; and those not part of the church to the loving church of God.  The morning service is a blended worship service.  All are welcome in our church.  You will not be out of place by what you are wearing, the color of your skin, or where you work.  We are all children of God and made in his image.

The Evening Worship Service

The evening worship service is a time to help believers grapple with discipleship issues. Its purpose and goal is to lead worshipers to discover Biblical truths about issues of life, develop community throughout the church, and to expand the kingdom of God one person at a time. During this service we have a more in depth bible study in which members can ask question and offer thoughts on the topic of study.

Leadership of People

Shared leadership style builds a trusting relationship between pastor, staff, and people in pursuit of the Great Commission’s objectives. Building on the strengths of all the members of the body maximizes the potential for God to accomplish His purpose and continually buildup the church. A healthy church has a trusting relationship between Pastor and people in pursuit of the Great Commission in which both achieve greater than expected.

Minister of Music

Minister to Students

Emily Harbin

     Emily Harbin
I am thrilled to be a part of the music and student ministry at Glenwood Baptist Church!

I did grow up in the Clinton/Powell area, and I am grateful to have grown up in a family where my parents sought the face of God. Seeing behind the scenes in a music ministry was commonplace as a kid, since my dad led worship in various churches and later moved into a pastoral role. The experiences I had growing up in church have definitely taught me a lot of about ministry as a whole. I attended Lee University, where I obtained a Bachelors in Music Education and Masters in Music Performance. While working towards those degrees, I had ample opportunities to worship in a wide variety of settings - including international ones! Those experiences have also made huge impacts on my heart for leading worship.

When it comes to music in worship, I find value in music and songs of all styles and eras. There are some theology-rich hymns of old that can still lead us to the Throne. There are also some incredibly timely new hymns that bring us to the foot of the Cross. I also believe that God deserves our very best in worship. It is my goal in the leading of the music here at Glenwood to never fall short of giving Him that.

Not only am I thrilled to be a part of the music ministry here at Glenwood, but I am beyond excited to work with all of our students. I’ve spent the past few years working with students and children of all ages. In the school setting, I worked with Pre K - 8th graders and have worked with high schoolers as well. The passion that I have to see children grow and develop will certainly fuel my approach to our students.
Youth today are facing inexplainable challenges - challenges that they really shouldn’t have to face. It's my goal to impress upon them that the Word of God is their source for answers. Society sends such mixed signals; we have to make sure we know and hold on to what is Truth.

In addition to my responsibilities here at Glenwood, I work during the week as a CrossFit coach at CrossFit Rhema.

Grateful and humbled to be a part of what God is doing at Glenwood!
